The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
