The esteemed football figure has made clear that he is not seeking a return to football management, noting that it would be challenging to duplicate the higher calling he felt as the national team coach.

Southgate expressed his aim to dedicate his efforts toward engaging the youth and addressing what he called a pervasive negative narrative currently existing in the country.

Pursuing New Avenues Beyond Coaching

Speaking on air, Southgate was prompted regarding talk linking him with available jobs in the Premier League and other leagues.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he responded. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

A Passion for Mentorship

Prior to the publication of his new title, his new work on leadership, he emphasized that he is deeply committed about setting examples for the youth, applying lessons from his period as head coach of the national side from 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

The leader believes that his time coaching England, during which the team transformed from being strongly criticized to widely supported, holds wider relevance.

“We had a huge disconnect with the public when we started,” he explained. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Parenting and Influencing Youth

Speaking from his experience as a father, he commented: “Parents strive to offer their children a great beginning, but eventually, kids tune out. My household is no different, but I’m convinced this is a vital focus for society.”

He continued: “Currently, a pessimistic story dominates national discourse, and we must offer youth optimism and direction. The country is full of potential, but young individuals require positive influences and supportive peers, as these choices shape their futures profoundly.”

Common Ground Above Discord

Southgate stressed that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the societal attention often centers on disagreement.

“The reasons for public dissatisfaction are clear,” he commented. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.”

The manager’s upcoming publication, Dear England, is expected to present deeper reflections on guidance and country pride drawn from his distinguished career.
