Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

Team management stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost fast bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
