Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
